Thats is some really odd human behavior. There is no incentive to veer off the road and hit an animal when you can go straight with no problems. I mean even in a very selfish way you would be afraid to damage your vehicle, who knows maybe something hard like a bone will puncture your tire or slimey guts will make you slide and lose control.
